Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I have depression or burnout? Depression and burnout can feel very similar, and many people experience a mix of both. Burnout is often related to chronic stress, overwhelm, caregiving, work demands, or emotional exhaustion. Depression may include persistent low mood, loss of interest or pleasure, hopelessness, changes in sleep or appetite, low motivation, guilt, or difficulty functioning even when stressors improve. A psychiatric evaluation can help clarify what may be contributing to your symptoms and identify whether depression, anxiety, ADHD, stress, sleep issues, medical factors, or burnout may be involved.

Do antidepressants change your personality? Antidepressants are not meant to change who you are. The goal is typically to reduce symptoms such as persistent sadness, anxiety, irritability, emotional numbness, or low motivation so you can feel more like yourself again. Everyone responds differently to medication. Some people notice improved energy, emotional balance, focus, or resilience. If a medication causes unwanted side effects or emotional blunting, we can adjust the dose, change medications, or explore other treatment options together.

How long do antidepressants take to work? Some people notice early improvements in sleep, anxiety, or energy within the first 1–2 weeks, but full benefits often take 4–8 weeks or longer depending on the medication and the individual. Finding the right treatment sometimes requires gradual adjustments over time. Follow-up visits allow us to monitor progress, manage side effects, and make thoughtful changes when needed.

What if I’ve tried medications before? Many people seeking care have already tried one or more medications in the past. There are many reasons a medication may not have worked, including side effects, dosing, timing, stress levels, sleep problems, medical contributors, or an incomplete diagnosis. Treatment is rarely “one size fits all.” During your evaluation, we review your past experiences carefully to better understand what helped, what didn’t, and what other options may be worth considering. This may include different medications, therapy referrals, lifestyle strategies, sleep optimization, exercise, supplementation considerations, or a more comprehensive treatment plan.

You deserve support. You deserve to feel better.

We're here to help you move forward-one step at a time.
